In the digital age, trust has become the currency of our interactions. Whether it’s online shopping, social media or utilising the services of high-tech companies. However, as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to shape the landscape of technology, the issue of digital trust has taken centre stage. According to the analysis conducted by Swiss Re Institute, it was indicated that trust in AI by relatively large companies is surprisingly low. The question on everyone’s mind is why?

Trust is the cornerstone of any successful relationship, across all industries and in high-tech companies there is no change to this. Customers need to feel confident that their personal data is used responsibly and most importantly is secure. Despite the vast benefits presented by AI, the algorithms driving its system can at times be biased and not accurate. For industries like insurance, digital trust plays a pivotal role.

Potential Pitfalls of AI

Artificial intelligence has emerged as a disruptive force, changing industries in unforeseen ways and empowering enterprises to achieve unprecedented feats. AI has undoubtedly enhanced our lives. However, with great power comes great responsibility and the unchecked use of AI has raised concerns that can undermine the trust we place in high-tech companies. AI algorithms are only as good as the data they are trained on. Furthermore, the damaging use of AI in digital deception has led to it being questioned whether it can be trusted at all.

Building Trust

It is all fair and well that high-tech companies do not trust AI, but they possess the responsibility to address this deficit. Transparency and proactive communication are key. Organisations should openly discuss their data practices, privacy policies and the steps taken to ensure accountability in AI systems. Providing clear avenues for feedback and appeals can help restore trust in both AI and its customers. Moreover, collaboration with regulatory bodies and industry peers can help establish ethical guidelines, fostering a culture of responsible AI usage.
