In a significant development that impacts millions of users worldwide, Google has reached a series of privacy settlements following allegations of breaches and violations. The tech giant has reached a nearly $600 million settlement payout agreement with states and affected users. $23M Search Privacy Settlement
Despite the court case winding litigation for 12 years, Google agreed on the 5h of January to pay $23 million to resolve a class-action lawsuit. This settlement is to pay any users who clicked on a search link from 2006 to 2013. So far, individual payments are expected to be less than $8.During the lawsuit, Google was accused of;
“Storing and intentionally and intentionally, systematically and repeatedly divulging users’ search queries and histories to third-party websites and companies”.
Furthermore, the lawsuit also claimed that marketers had paid Google to learn about certain search-related factors which drove customers to click on a specific page.
How Can I Claim?
Firstly, the settlement administrators have created a website for individuals to submit claims. The figure which individuals are expected to receive may fluctuate depending on how many people make a valid claim.
Secondly, if you wish to claim, you have until the 31st of July to do so. You must submit your full name, street address and email address. Also, anyone who does not want to be included in this settlement or object to it, must also submit a form by mail by the same deadline.
